    Re: EGT's when Towing?

There are a couple options that you can do.

You can either run a gauge that plugs into the OBD port and that should bring up the oem EGT sensor which from what I have seen/heard is not as close to accurate as an actual drilled and tapped port on the manifold.

On a stock truck you really don't have too much to worry about as it shouldn't be able to get above a safe limit.

When these trucks goes into Regen they get hot hot which you would see when and if you get an EGT sensor/gauge.

I think you should be fine without it unless you just have to have one or want one which is not a problem at all.

Thats what I have always wondered on the newer stock trucks.

I guess they burn themselves up when towing.

Then again towing heave you should never see active Regen in the first place.

My favorite stock (non mod ) option-

    Obdmx/obdmx+ (+ it's just the newest rev )

    Screenshot_20200217-202839.jpg

From the free app (for phone) made for that obd plug.

Please note, you have to make that screen. Regen status 0= off 1=on

You can also monitor VGT pos/ and command position and FAR MORE (even without alfaodb)

Added bonus that's the recommended plug for alfaodb!

    Mega: I agree!
Downloaded the App (OBD Fusion) on my Old IPhone (that was basically in new condition) after AT&T told me I get a New (Free) one with our new contract.

Im still trying to figure out what gauges (PIDs) to add- These are just the ones I have added - still tying to think if these are even helpful while towing!

I know these are not 100% accurate - but at least you have something to put eyes on to give a general idea!

Thinking about creating a new dashboard - That puts my Fuel Rail Temp & Pressure displays together on the same dashboard.
I like the idea of having a ton of PIDs to create & beable to eyeball.
I truly am thinking I don't need 20 more things to focus on while I'm driving (Towing) - maybe 10 at the most!
Finding those (Most important 10 at this point are my main focus)!

(I am open to any logical ideas on the 10 or less PIDs that are possibly the most important to beable to watch or keep a eye on while towing).

My uncle who RVs full time all over the country - recommend the VeePeak (OBD II/EOBD/JOBD). He has used it for years with no issues & he leaves his plugged in 24/7 with never any issues with battery drain.

An Old Ipad or Tablet would be perfect I feel - You could add at least 10 Displays per dashboard - Alot of info in front of you.

    https://www.veepeak.com/product/obdcheck-ble-plus/

SyN Disclaimer: I'm in no way shape or form recommending this product - I'm only telling others what is working for me (2017 6.7L) & has worked perfectly fine for a relative (2016 6.7L).
Note: Some of the PIDs listed with the VeePeak may not be supported via the OBD II port.

Marion helped me alot - Even actually talked to him personally a few times... Wish he was my next door Neighbor...

The VeePeak is even a code reader & can clear the codes as well - Not a bad investment...

Edit: Marion just informed me while towing his RV his EGTs have not gone over 950*F...
He has ran between 925-950*F... (Bone stock 2014)
Mr Banks says limit is 1200-1250*F for a very short period.
I set my limit on my OBD Fusion @ 1000*F.

My new (final) first display - have 4 total.
Basically a display to let me know when I'm in Regen & my important EGTs while towing.

I set up my Info within my Dash cluster go give me as many engine/transmission parameters as it can - on one face plate...
This OBD Fusion app will give me access to way more information then my brain can process while driving - so I'm limiting this information down to 6 dashboards - 2-6 displays per dashboard.
Finding the most important & most informative is the challenge... (Really would like to have my Old Ipad back) - Would be perfect with my old eyes!
Thinking of Fuel Temp & PSI within the same Dashboard...

Yes I know these are not 100% accurate - but these let me know at least ballpark temps!
(Better then being totally in the dark)

Before I deleted mine I installed the triple pillar gauges from autometer.

I saw EGT's of close to 1400 degrees.

Pulling my 32' travel trailer with slide out I see about 1200 in the mountains and on the interstate running empty at close to 80 about 800.
