    Re: Transmission Fluid

I wish I could help more.

It’s one of those deals you could drive yourself crazy reading and calling asking what others do.

If you have a fully built transmission from a company then I would say follow their procedures.

Anything short of that personally I would follow factory manual.

Whatever you choose trust it and enjoy the truck!

I've always been told that Park and Neutral are hydraulically the same. My owner's manual says check the fluid level in Park. Dipstick says check it in Neutral.

I experimented today. Trans was at 165 (normal operating temp for my truck). Checked fluid level in Park, then cycled through the gears and checked it in Neutral. Fluid level was identical in Park and Neutral.

Interesting I have the Aisin transmission and my dipstick and owner manual both say to check in park.

i will have to check the fluid level again tomorrow in park and neutral and see if it’s the same last time I checked in park there was nothing on dipstick and in neutral it was just about hot line.

    Report back!

I’m curious- remember to run shifter through the low gears too.

    Re: Transmission Fluid

Fluid level should be the same in either position.

My 2013 says either park or neutral.

I check mine in park so that I do not get run over if something caused the shifter to move.

    Re: Transmission Fluid

So I checked it earlier today trans temp was 177 and park and neutral both showed the fluid level a little over 3/4 on the dipstick.

I’m out of fluid I’ll have to get more and get it to the hot marks.

I don’t know what I was looking at when I checked it last time in park, it was cold and getting dark.

Sorry to bother every one with the post.

Thread was worth it- good info that N and Park should read the same.

You may have had the truck not sitting right to have had the wrong measure.

Always park on a level surface.

    Re: Transmission Fluid

Here's a handy fluid level chart that I found on the TDR forum.

This allows you to take a fairly accurate measurement at any temp, so you don't underfill or overfill:
