MPROP/FCA worth replacing on a whim to see if its causing my random idle surges?
Replaced the MPROP, seems to be a little smoother.
Haven't had a chance to have it in traffic yet though.
Is there a way to post a video?
I have a short clip of my cold start smoke and blow by through the oil cap.
My idle is getting rougher.
Sometimes its smooth, sometimes it's not. Doesn't seem to matter if cold or warm.
Once I get over 1k rpms or so its butter though.
I think I'll get the injectors kill tested and see if they are bad. Were replaced in August 2019 by the previous owner (best friend of mine) so hopefully they are good.
A rebuild is getting closer and closer...
I put a bottle of howes injector cleaner in it (enough for 320 gallons) and some fresh diesel.
I've revved the engine to 2k rpm and it doesn't hang, comes right down like it should.
The rough idle is still sporadic and worse in gear but I do get smoke when it idles rough.
First start idle is less smokey but it's also 30 degrees warmer.
Gonna get the oil samples to make sure it's not full of fuel (oil smells like oil).
Coolant is good, no oil/fuel/etc as well.
If you pull the oil dipstick st idle it shoots oil out of the dipstick tube.
I'm still leaning towards rings/compression issue and heading a rebuild.
Sir, your ring(s) are broke.
Very common in common rail 5.9L with your mileage.
Repaired many.
There is no oil in the world that can solve that.

I figured as much but wanted to rule out the injector plausiblility.
Sent an oil sample off today. The oil filter is a pain in the *** to get off. Terrible location.
I got the oil sample back.
Zero fuel in the oil.
Zero coolants in the oil.
Oil was sooty.
Looks like it's officially ringing.
The truck still drives great after shes warmed up, ha.
update for those paying attention,
im tossing around the idea of;
used low mile engine
6.7 short block swap
complete rebuild keeping original engine.
they all seem to be the same cost, any pro or cons?
