    Welcome.

I came from a 2500 Chevy that was requiring love every 2500 miles and understand your statement of needing piece of mind while towing.

Last year we towed our 8000lb trailer for about 4500 miles and averaged 11.8.

Around the house been observing as high as 18 and low of 14 per tank.

I got the 3500 to be able to put our slide in, in the bed instead of on a goose-neck.

Theoretically 1500 series truck can handle an 8000lbs trailer, just boils down to your comfort level and financials.

I really hate making payments, but hated more fixing a truck on the side of the road or when it is colder than 30.

The fuel mileage in our 18 2500 is nothing to get excited about, in fact it's disappointing. My 02 does better. But just like everything else, there is a solution to that once the proper upgrades are made.

One thing I would recommend, get a 1 ton. We recently decided to switch from a bumper pull camper to a slide in truck camper (so we can get more remote), the 2500 with coils is less than ideal for this.

I feel like the ride improvement with the coils is more for us. For us we already have the trailer we are happy with and it’s WELL inside the capabilities of the 2500. I hear what your saying but I suppose everything is a trade off. The half ton just didn’t cut it for me.

But my only gripe was I could have bought a 3500 for $1500 more when I ordered our truck from the factory. Then I could have run any truck camper I wanted. Of course, at the time, we had no idea what-so-ever about owning a truck camper.

Coupla thangs to think about there....

A 3500 gots leaf springs in the back methinks.... vs coil spring on a 2500

I think ya gotta run em through the weigh stations too, since when I specced one it turned out rated for 11500... and the signs say “all vehickuls over 5 tons GVWR”

    Good stuff.... Truckers bring it
