I was told by someone that you could easily just disconnect EGR and DEF and not have to straight pipe.
Any thoughts?

Welcome to the forum!!
I believe someone is misleading you. The factory exhaust requires DEF to be active.

You kiddin?
If it was that easy everybody be doin it and this site wouldnt be here
Nope, it aint. EGR maybe, but nanny gooberment made it so just disconnectin the DEF gonna render the truck undriveable.
Of course, fire trucks aint gotta put up with that... but dont git me started.
Good stuff.... Truckers bring it
To the OP, your question is misleading.
If you are talking about just unplugging the emission DPF and DEF and nothing else, your truck will not operate, doesn't matter what year of truck since they put in a DPF.
If you are asking about a Tune that you can get to allow you to unplug this will not work and the DPF would plug up very quickly and a big o' carbon fire bomb would be cooking in that DPF.

Not to mention many of those fire trucks are still running the old 2 stroke Detroit's.....those things are gone for the rest of us because they couldn't pass emissions for the 90's let alone today.
