    2006 5.9 Cummins with 160k miles

I bought a 2006 5.9 with 160k miles. Hoping to get 300k+ out of it. What would be some good things to do that would prolong the life of my engine?

to answer your question about what to do too pro long life, proper maintenance yes is a big one, but with that year also, better fuel filtration is a must.

This saves injectors and injection pump.

2016 Ram 2500 CCSB 4X4 ,Cat fuel filter delete with water seperator. Thuren suspension
with Fox IFP shocks, thuren sway bar, rear track bar and front track bar, Warn 12k winch , custom winch mount, REVMAX trans pan,HD valve body and thermal bypas. Leer truck topper,Exotic head studs, Engine enhancements by the cummins whisper.

My 5.9 recipe was oil, oil filter & fuel filter every 10k miles. Depending on your budget, I'd recommend a Fass/Airdog fuel system to take advantage of better fuel filtration because common rail injectors are not cheap. If it's a 4x4 I'd change the fluid in both diffs & transfer case, if not then just the rear diff. Trans fluid is a touchy subject depending on if it's ever been changed.
