    Input Please

So I am going to be buying a designated tow rig and occasion daily.

I have a 48ft gooseneck that is always loaded with my race car and supplies. The trailer is 10k empty and roughly 28k loaded with everything.

I am looking for input on what would be the best choice with 3500 or 5500. It will be getting twins for fuel economy as performance and a built trans right away with other parts as well.

For that weight I’d go 5500 or cheap and get a single axle road tractor and buy a 2500 to daily drive for the same money.

That’s what I have been leaning towards. The only thing that I’ve been tossing up is the gcw is the same 43k on both trucks the only difference between them would be the payload. I’d there an other difference because the truck when unloaded will have my daily work truck for welding. And hauling the 5th wheel with goosebox conversion.

If it’s still the same as a few years ago the 4500/5500 have larger axles and all. If the welding setup is real heavy it would be worth going for the larger suspension and all. The 3500 will ride a lot nice empty though.

The welder is like 3k overall with everything and compressor most of the time it’ll be empty.

Towing is like maybe three times a month.

Is a Lincoln engine driven welder with compressor.

How far is the towing? That would make a big difference to me as well.

Longest is roughly 32 hours and that will be 24k trailer weight.

    That’s a long haul.

About like pulling a huge fifth wheel cross country.

I’d say go test drive both and see what you think of them.

I like the tighter turn radius of the 5500 due to the wider axles up front.
