    Temp Question

Since I purchased the truck about 3 months ago, 2017 2500, the coolant temp has always stayed at 192, doesn't matter what the temp is outside.

Last week, the temp went up to 194 driving and over 210 when sitting at a stoplight.

    I'm thinking a thermostat.

I never heard the fan kick on, but didn't think they did until around 220 anyway.

    Any ideas?

When it hit 210 did the temp drop back?

Also was the truck towing/driving for a long duration?

    What was ambient temp?

It did drop back, but only after moving.

Not really, it seems to warm up a lot quicker now.

    Ambient temp was around 60-65.

Is your fan unplugged by chance?

Nope, wish it was that simple. Clutch feels like it's engaged when I spin it when the truck is warm.

    Re: Temp Question

This doesn't sound to bad to me. My truck normally runs around 194--196. Normally. in winter months I put on bra just to get heat in Cab. truck temp at 192 @ 32* and under .
I just took a trip to ca for Christmas to see family and temp there was 50-60* I still had bra on and temps at stop light would get up to 206 but as soon as I started moving they came back down to 194-196* fan never kicked on that I noticed.
Does your fan kick on when you pull a grade if your temp gets up past 210?

Not sure how many miles you have.

Do you have lots of bugs and gunk built up around the rad.

    Do the easy stuff first.

You can always put the thermostat and first make sure it's a cummins part.

Boil it in water and see what temp it opens up on.

Depending on how many miles and if you do or don't know any maintenance history a coolant flush wouldn't be a bad thing for the future

    Re: Temp Question

    Sorry, somehow missed the responses.

Coolant is an orangish color, so it should be good.

I live in Florida, we don't really have grades and the truck has gotten to 216 when finishing a long pull, after this issue started, and I don't remember a fan coming on.

Truck has about 82k on it, the coolers look clean, but I'm definitely going to clean them again.

I need to "repair" some emission components, so I went ahead and ordered the 180 thermostat and was planning on doing a coolant flush.

I got it back form the dealer and they didn't find anything wrong, so that's my next steps.

    Re: Temp Question

Dad's truck did that last summer, changed thermostat and didn't seem to change anything.

Just pulled it in the barn this winter and changed the fan clutch. We believe that was the problem.

Everything else seemed to be ok but fan would only engage sometimes.

We have a double radiator and it cracked the y-pipe when it got over about 215, then it would spit antifreeze when it got up to 210.

Changed both y-pipes and did the fan clutch this winter here.

    It's a 13 6.7
