Best way to know if its a bad thermo is pull it, do the cold and hot water test and go from there. Change if it fails the test.

Sounds like your thermostat is stuck mostly open. I would pick up a spare and keep an eye on my temperatures anyway.

I’ll pick one up from the local NAPA. Temps are running cool (170-180). I’ll keep an eye on it...

    Thanks!

Just so you know the OEM RAM thermostat is preferred over after market.

    Re: Failing Thermostat?

Every forum I have read says so, why?

    No one knows.

Everyone pushes (in a good way) oem tstats because the non oem ones always seem to have issues!

    Re: Failing Thermostat?

Because the aftermarket ones are made like crap.

Went through 2 in two weeks because of water flow through them.

The problem is they are just not made like they used to make the parts.

The brass is recycled and the entire structure is made with the cheapest steel possible.

Plus, if you look closely, you will see that the opening for the water varies from unit to unit.

    Some small, some large.

    Re: Failing Thermostat?

I have a 18’ Cummins 2500 and my temps barely get out of the 170’s normal driving in average mid 70’s ambient temp.

Takes a good 15 minutes for my truck to get up to high 160’s.

    Thinking it’s the thermostat.

Do y’all know which thermostat my truck would have in it?

Everything I see is 190 degree stat.

    18’ 2500

Unless the temps drop to low when it gets warm I would not worry. Does the temp get higher when you get in it? If not you may have a fan that is stuck on instead.

    Re: Failing Thermostat?

Thanks for the response. This morning it was 39 degrees ambient temp. My truck never went above 163 degrees during my commute and that was getting in it a couple times. Average temp was 159/160. Checked my codes when I got to work and had the p0128
