    Filters and More

I purchased my 2007 Ram 3500 with the 6.7 cummins w/93k miles... I've been going through and doing all the maintenance stuff and since this is my first diesel I want to make sure I haven't missed anything. Here's what I've done... new air intake, egr deleted, straight piped from turbo back, CCV filter, fuel filter and 2" front leveling kit. I don't have any codes showing. The dealer said they did the oil change but I checked and the oil is pretty black so I'm gonna change it and probably go full synthetic. I've seen mentions of other filters, water seperators, etc. but I don't have a service manual...

I plan to change the fluids in front and back diff's and get the transmission flushed. I basically want to be at a fresh starting point for all maintenance since I have no idea if the last owner did anything to the truck.

Can anyone throw out suggestions for additional maintenance items!

Sounds like your covering all your bases to me.

Good idea! Only thing I hate about buying second hand you usually don't know how it was maintained.

I cant think of anything else though that you would need to do.

Agreed I think you have it all covered. Also check the brake pads and grease all the fittings that you can find.

    If she is a 4WD - Don't forget/neglect the transfer case.

Note: Really research those transmission flushing methods.
Most feel it's best to just drop the pan (Clean) & change the filters! - Flushing does not do this.
    Just something to think about!

You’re off to a great start.

As mentioned don’t forget the transfer case as it’s often overlooked.

I’ve always used Amsoil for differentials and engine oil & oil filter.

For anything that involves automatic transmission fluid I’ve always used Mopar fluids.

Use spray cleaner for your pan.

You don't want any shop towel lint left behind.

Not sure how you plan to flush the trans but:

There is a method (which I used) where you remove the "RETURN" line from the trans, fill and run to "flush" thre fluid from the cooler and TC. If your considering this option I'll try to pull the full article.

There is a pesky blind grease fitting on the front drive shaft.

Cabin filter doors can easily be added be hind the glove box.

When your reading about filters, check out the fleetguard "Nanonet", have a slightly better rating.

Does anyone else use this style cap and method to change the oil?

I go threw the wheel well on passenger side drop old filter it will rest inside the farm rail.

Then screw cap on pull it out and do the reverse for the new one.
