how to install tranny temp gauge?

got a 1997 12 valve with an auto tranny. bought the glow shift tranny gauge. now I have an afe deep tranny pan on the way with a 1/8" hole to fit the gauge's sensor. but Ive seen on some you need like a test port extended or something? do I need to get this extended or can I just screw the sensor into the aftermarket pan?

Now you will know when it's time to rebuild the tranny for sure. If it gets hot it's time.
