    Re: 68RFE Valve Body

Randy makes an excellent valve body.

    A lot of builders do.

    Randy's, DRT, RevMax, etc.

Do your homework, call around, and find a builder you trust.

    They all use similar components.

    You should look for:
    - Flat sanded valve body case
    - RevMax or DNJ billet channel plate (both are proprietary designs)
    - Sonnax billet accumulator pistons
    - Sonnax accumulator plate w/ additional screws. Some builders drill & tap for the 3 extra screws, some leave them out.
    - Transgo HD2 low/reverse switch valve
    - Sonnax or Transgo Solenoid Switch Valve (SSV). This is important. The Sonnax valve is oversized, so the entire bore is reamed and corrected. The Transgo valve fits the stock bore, but the end plug is oversized to prevent leakage.
    - Separator plate: there are arguments for, and against, using a bonded/coated plate. Some builders say the coating can delaminate and flake off, sending pieces through your valve body and transmission.
    - Solenoid pack. Optional on some, included with some.
    - Deep pan: some valvebodies won't work with a stock pan, and even some aftermarket pans must be modified to fit.

I've been toying around with this for some time now.

I just got my truck back and now I'm wondering about my trans.

I want to do the coolant bypass kit, convertor, and vb all at the same time.

Please keep me informed on the performance of the unit.

What all is done to your truck?

    Re: 68RFE Valve Body

I finally put my Revmax VB with Billet channel plate in along with the thermostat bypass.

My impression is that when the converter is locked up the transmission definitely feels more locked up than before. I’m pretty sure the line pressure levels are higher at the clutch packs and converter.
I’m thinking this confirms that there is more line pressure actually reaching its intended place.

My truck is stock other than the transmission right now, I’ll be putting on the tuner and all shortly.

    Re: 68RFE Valve Body

I got mine in on Thursday as well.

It's not tuned yet for the 225 line pressure, but you can tell it's getting more psi and better lock up.

I'm getting 185.6psi on my 30 hp tune setting right now.

So a big improvement just by swapping.

    68RFE Valve Body

I have the RevMax valve body, the zerostat bypass (135 temp) max since install, and a Mag-Hytec deep pan.

DRD tunes my trans and I’m loving the improved shifting characteristics.

Shifts are firm and I feel I hold gears a bit longer.

I don’t abuse my truck but damn it’s nice to be able to sh*t and get without too much worry (68RFE).

    Re: 68RFE Valve Body

Are you able to use a Revmax valve body without any transmission tuning?

Yes, but you get no benefit from it without updated tuning.
