    FCA Goodbye

Hope the link is active and works.

Now it is a merger of three companies - Chrysler, Fiat and Peugeot.

Mergers can cause some shake ups, as similar offerings sometimes will get combined or dropped. A lot of times it takes years to re-tool a plant, it doesn't happen out of the box. In the FCU - PSU group merger, there are not a lot of overlapping vehicles. I thnk you will see more technology sharing, combined R&D efforts and possibly some marketing benefits. Fiat didn't kill Chryslers offerings, unlikely this will either. Nobody can afford to be in the race to develop new tech alone. Find a partner, share the cost, combine the brain power. In theory at least, it is the faster method.

I don't see any of them as American car companies anymore. GM sells more vehicles in China than in the US. If you aren't familiar with these names - Holden, Baojun, Jiefang and Wuling; you don't know GM as well as you might have thought. Ford has been partnered with Volvo, Land Rover, Mazda, Jaquar and Aston Martin. I will give the Ford family credit, they have a lot of control through the type of stock they own even though they own less of the company. I thnk here in Michigan Ford and Mazda still have a joint R&D center.

I hate to admit it, but the young adults of today have always lived in a world with internet, global marketing, and influences that will forever change how business across the world works. Because of that, its also going to change how manufacturing works. Old guys like me that drive past the Walmart to go to the local grocery are becoming a thing of the past, and those that understand it are becoming fewer.

I remember the muscle car days of the late 60's and early 70's. At that point I had no knowledge that GM, Ford or Chrysler built cars anywhere but here in the states. Now I know I was mistaken, they were international way before that point. I just didn't have the access to the resources to know it or understand it.

I see it this way. Any company with aspirations of being around for a while targets their product to their market. Look at the loss of the sedans by Gm and Ford. No market, no more offerings (with a couple exceptions) now its either cross overs or SUV's. As long as we are willing to spend the coin for large well appointed trucks with payload and towing capacities that allow us to drag the equivalent of a small house around, they will make them here. Betting Jeeps too, and the "new" muscle cars.

I'd buy a 6 speed Duramax if they were the only one on the market even though they're hideous LOL.
