    Starter engages but won’t crank

Starter worked fine a few days before then I went to start and it just engaged, dimmed out the dash lights and wouldn’t turn over. I checked batteries and also tried to jump start, same thing. Took starter off and things seemed to work fine but didn’t seem to have any torque. Bought new starter and tested and it seemed the same so maybe new one is bad or old one is fine. Put new one in and same thing, engages but won’t turn over. If the starters are fine and batteries are fine (new, two months old and charged) what else can cause this?

Where did you buy your starter from? If you bought from auto zone or advanced auto etc... I wouldn’t trust them. I would purchase OEM new from the dealership.

The best way to check the batteries is to load test them. Even new batteries can have weak or dead cells. If the new batteries are bad they could be loading down the circuit even when jump starting.

Got it online from a place in Utah. Has Cummins number on it and says made in Japan. Exactly like the original.

If it doesn't crank at all, see if you can manually rotate the engine.
