Front Drive Shaft Greasing

I see this topic has been addressed already but thought I would share my experience as it may help others.

After many hours of searching I did find the tiny shiny dimple where the grease can be added (second photo you can't see it but it's just to the left of the white line that I added) I purchased a tube of the specified grease from the dealership (first photo). Asked the service department if they ever greased this item and got a blank stare.

The service manager told me there are no grease points on the drive line. So next I ran around town looking for grease needle adapters spent over $60 (last photo) Spent many hours trying to inject the grease, even modified the one adapter by bending it to fit, of course it broke and I had to silver solder it.

Finally able to get the grease to push through the fitting using the tip shown on the end of the hose. The part you need is a "Lincoln Lubrication 5803 Grease Needle Nozzle" $14 Hope this information will help someone else trying to perform this task.

Yes, the 5803 is what you need. I found mine at O’Reillys Auto Parts. They also stock them on Amazon. One thing I forgot to mention rotate the drive shaft so the shiny dimple is at the three o’clock position facing the passenger side door. I had better injection success at that position than the more obvious six o’clock position.

The 1st time I did mine, there was like a rust color grease on it and hell to find.

I cleaned it up, painted it yellow around the fitting and can find it every time now.

NAPA had the fitting that doesn't break.

There has to be a better design.

What type of grease did you end up using? I've been trying to figure this out for a while now as I've recently completed my first oil change. I can't find the sticker that you took a picture of on my truck, 2019 Ram 2500.

I used the specified grease MS-6560 Lithium Base Grease Mopar part # 05083150AA. Since you don’t have the sticker on your 2019 I would check with your owners manual or dealership. Perhaps other 2019 owners will chime in.

I used these @ the 1200 mile mark - funny thing was New Red grease went in the front knuckle & the same New Red Grease came out the back knuckle...

(Bone Dry from the factory)!

Then spun the shaft around close to 20 times to move the new grease around a bit...

I have a 2010 with the same sticker.

I have searched high and low for that grease point and never found it EVER.

I've never greased it until now 132,000 miles later. LOL.

So now I've greased it about 3 times to make up for lost time. LOL

After hearing many stories and my own experience, I'm confident the dealer's don't ever grease this.

Baffling when there is a sticker under the hood from the factory about it.

I used to always ask them to specifically do it when I would get my oil changed at the dealer under warranty, "oh yea we always do that".

Even would make a note that they "greased the front end" on my paperwork.

First oil change I did myself, I got in there to grease it and could hear the air bubbles getting pushed out and brand new grease coming out the other end.

Bone dry.
