I set mine at 1250F. But others are welcome to chime in.

My understanding is you can run that high momentarily but not for prolonged periods.

1300F is pretty much peak for the temps.

@IGOTACUMMINS - Thank you for chiming in on this!

Can you please let us guys with pyrometers in the back block off plate know if 1300 would still be the max indicated temp?

I’ve heard that probes in the block off plate tend to read a bit lower than if they were in the collector just prior to turbo and wonder if you have any insight on this.

Yep rear block off plate pyros read pretty accurate under heavy load.

It's only under light load they may read a little cool in that location.

I was told by my father years ago 1300 for short times. We had a ih 806 turned up I still run it today 14,000 hrs on it. He was an marine diesel mechanic on the side for coast guard. 1200 is safe but lower would be best. When I pull heavy I set my edge to 1100 I hit some long hills.

do these 30 hp tow tunes help with the trans downshifting while towing on a moderate incline? I am wanting some sort of similar tuning to help reduce the need to downshift while cruising at highway speed on a moderate incline

Trans tuning will apply to all hp levels.

Shift points, line pressures, and converter lock up strategies are all adjusted.

Yes it definitely helps, but it's still best to lock out 6th when towing heavy.

When I see a hill coming, I downshift manually so the converter is locked back up before actually hitting the grade.

May not be necessary but it gives me peace of mind.
