    Front driveshaft upgrade

I’ve replaced every u joint on my truck myself already but when it came to the front shaft (with the weird double joint by the transfer case) I didn’t want to risk messing something up. I was researching getting it rebuilt and came across driveshaft specialists in Texas. They have a great reputation and only use American made parts. I was emailing with them and they asked me if I wanted to “upgrade”. Being a sucker for always upgrading, even when I know it’s likely not necessary, I had them build a new front driveshaft based off of a 4500 truck. Cost was a couple hundred more than a simple rebuild of my 2500 shaft. Here’s what they told me about the 4500 series shafts

The 4500 series runs the same 1350 series u-joints you have factory, but the tube is a 3'' diameter and the stub and slip is 1.5'' instead of 1 3/8.
It is stronger by a long shot.

Looks beefy! Does it still use the needle type grease fitting for the double u-joint?

Thanks and she’s a big girl for sure. Regretfully, no way to get away from that darn needle grease fitting on this one either. The slip shaft on the other end is greasable with a normal zerk fitting.

Very nice upgrade! Wish that needle grease fitting was easier to get too. LOL

    Re: Front driveshaft upgrade

Got it installed this afternoon no prob.

I also swapped out the chinzy torx bolts on the front flange that like to strip out to a grade 8 equivalent (10.9) metric hex bolt.

Turned out nice - now I should be able to forget about front driveshaft.
