    68RFE Shifting Issues

I've got 2,500 miles on this truck. From day one it's had shifting issues, mainly down shifting - both accelerating and decelerating.

Example: Approx 1,000lb in bed going up a fairly steep hill 25mph in 5th gear, Normal driving wont drop out of 6th until 20~25mph and will stay in 4th or 5th until 5~10mph, Manual downshift works sporadically and when it does it often takes 5 seconds or more.

The only way I can get some what normal shifting is with the exhaust brake, which I assume is do to a more noticeable deceleration.

Poor performance issues aside I worry about the lugging of motor especially during break in.

Not even going to mention the weird 4th gear shift do to torque converter lock up.

Dealership says SOL until Dodge comes out with update/change in programming, independent Dodge certified tranny man agreed "not shifting properly" also said programming issue.

    Anyone else having this issue?

I just received my 2019 yesterday.

I went through the owners manual .... it says the Cummins engine does NOT require any kind of break in procedure.

    I have a few suggestions:

If towing heavy vary throttle position up and down if possible, make sure temps are up before towing... etc etc.

Maybe the 68RFE needs to “learn” for awhile before it shifts correctly?

I can’t say... mine has the Aisin.

Tuner choices are still very limited for 2019 models.

    Any recommendations?

I'm just wanting a Trans tune, not looking raise HP.

Thinking It's either a slow learner or has a learning disability.

    Thanks for suggestions.

If this is your first rig with a 68RFE it does take some getting used to. You’re dealing with a transmission that is tuned from the factory to be as efficient as possible while also protecting itself (shift flare) from the torque output of the Cummins. With 2500 miles on the truck it should have completed all of its “learning” by now and parameters are set in the computer. Considering all of the EPA hooplah lately it may be a while longer before tuning is released for the 19’s.

Fourth Diesel truck, first Cummins, first 68RFE. Never experienced shifting parameters like this, good to know it's not just me. Thanks for info.
