Re: Turbo Surging at Idle with Exhaust Brake

Mine just started doing this after I replaced my actuator last night. I used a complete city diesel unit. Only does it when it’s warming up and the exhaust brake is on or all the time, idling, if your running the “whistle” tune. When it’s surging the boost raises and falls slightly along with rpm’s. I unplugged the MAP sensor and it smoothes up right away. Still stays at roughly 93% turbo position, still whistles, just no surging. Hmmmmmm

Mine does it too, like a woosh woosh woosh just after starting in the cold.

I noticed after deleting and just assumed it was due to that.

I don't think it will be an issue.

My 17 does the same thing in the cold (deleted and tuned) and I have not seen any problems.

I have seen the same on my new ride (new to me) and that truck is all stock.

It sounds like crap, but like Ray said it does not cause any issues.

Re: Turbo Surging at Idle with Exhaust Brake

Just registering present - I have the same surging of the exhaust brake now that the truck is deleted (2013 MM3 tunes, 5" turbo back). It happens as soon as the truck is started, then stops once it goes into high idle.
@DRD - going to do some experimentation if I can ascertain if it is temperature dependent. It did not occur until it started to get cold out; so wondering if there is a specific temp that kicks off some oddity? Will report back...

Cold temps trigger warm up mode.

Warmup mode puts a load on the turbo and its components.

Things can stick, actuators can not play nice and the exhaust back pressure circuit can send mixed signals.

All of the above can cause turbo pulsation.

Unfortunately you can hear it all happen once the truck has an open exhaust as where it wasn't heard before.

Mine does the same when it's cold in the mornings.

    Don't worry about it.
