Cleaning VGT Turbo after Code U010c

So have had some issues with the truck the past month.

After the Idle pulley dropped while coming home from a camping trip, I was not able to get the truck to charge.

After a 6 week ordeal I finally got it to work. Now that the truck is back on the road and my engine light is still on with the code U010C - Loss communication with the Turbo.

So after doing some research, looks like the VGT control (valve) is stuck. Due to carbon build up.

My question is - Is there a process to pull the turbo from the truck and clean it vs spending $500 on a new VGT controller? Has anyone tried that?

I know there is something definitely wrong since I have about 1/2 my boost power and my exhaust brake no longer works.

Or would swapping the VGT valve do the trick and save me from pulling the turbo?

    Thanks guys!

Did the belt get shredded or wound up on any thing when the idler let go?

If so, check the crank sensor on the bottom under there.

Loss of communication between sensors could possibly cause problems.

Just a thought before tearing into that turbo.
