    Return to Stock Oddity

Here is my return to stock programming adventure this evening

I must have been a little tired and not paying attention but prior to flashing the ECM I forgot to plug in my Throttle Valve..

I had driven the truck prior to get it up to operation temp, shut the truck off and and was the in the ACC position without realizing it..

Then I selected the 'return to stock' and the flash proceeded to get written. Half way through I realized that I was not in RUN but ACC.

    Everything seemed to program ok.

After flashing I started up the truck and a CEL popped right away. This was for the throttle Valve being disconnected.

Plugged it back in and could not clear the CEL. Maybe it was dirty connectors..

Then I went so far as to remove the throttle valve and inspect that. Nothing seemed to make a difference.

So I had a thought... Let me reflash my tune back on, drive for 10 mins then reflash back to stock.

This time I reflashed with the key in the RUN position .

After flashing the tune back on, driving, then flashing the stock file everything worked perfect.. No CEL or anything.

Seems a little weird, but everything is as it should be for the time being.

The bigger question here is, why are you going back to stock???

    Return to Stock Oddity

I go back to stock every year for emissions testing.

For the next 3ish weeks I will be running stock waiting for the monitors to set. Once that happens I go in for inspection

After inspections I rip everything off for another 11ish months

This will be my 8th year of doing this

Ohhh gotcha, I was about to say LOL. Lord I hope I never have to do that...

If it does come to that where I'm at then I'll probably just sell.

Glad everything ended up working OK for you!

    Re: Return to Stock Oddity

Well Inspection is done, ECM reprogrammed and all my exhaust parts are safely put away .

This was the fastest ever for setting the monitors.

2 Active Regens and 198 miles total miles.

    Woohoo

Use a different programmer or a obd scan tool from your local auto parts store (free to use) to clear it.

I've had similar issues with MM3 not clearing a DTC. Something the engineers should be working on.

Wow that is a lot of work, what year is your truck, SmartDave? I saved all my stuff too just in case, but hope I never have to use it!

X2 on the lot of work part. That’s a man that loves his truck to do that every year!

    Re: Return to Stock Oddity

My truck is an ‘11. Started tuning at 1700 miles with a H&S minimax. I have been doing this a long time with this truck.

After the second or third time it is just a routine. Not hard at all and takes less than an hour.

When you do this every year the bolts and such don’t really freeze up from rust
