    Good oil choice

2018 6.7 with G56. First diesel. What is the best oil I should run? Don’t want Schaffer’s. Been watching the boob tube but too much flip flop religion. Don’t care about fan boy and anecdotal. Just looking for the best specs to treat the engine best.

What’s a good additive to give a helping hand for lubrication?

    Thanks

Most any brand name sync oil out there. Make sure you check they meet the viscosity and api rating recommended by Dodge.
I use Rotella T6. Cummins recommends Valvoline Blue. Mobil 1 is good. Even Amsoil.
Everyone here has their preference, so you'll get all kinds of brands mention.

Heck, do a search on this site, type in "oil" and sit back to read for hours.

Sorry to say - But there is No Best Oil!
A high quality - well formulated diesel oil - needs no additives.

I honestly feel choosing the proper viscosity & formulation is more important then brand!

Also running a synthetic media filter is high on my priority list as well.
My last priority - is selecting a proper OCI - to suit your own driving style & habits ----> Every ones is different.

Good Luck in your quest to find the magical elixer.

I (myself) chose a oil after months of research - That has excellent soot handling properties & a large dose of cleaning additives (Calcium & Magnesium) & loaded with Moly & Boron! Also starts out with a high TBN.

SyN Disclaimer on Oil Selection: This is only my simple opinion - nothing more.
I've never been a follower - I do my own foot work & choose what I feel suits my own driving style & habits.

As of now: I'm running the Wix XP filter due to the 6.7L is still extremely new with only 7K miles on her & break in Wear Metals are @ it's highest rate - so I will be changing the filters out more regularly.

One note: I have 2 large (Very Strong) N42 Neodymium magnets attached to the filter sides - to hopefully catch & hold a lot of the smaller micron wear metals within the filter.

(I tend to spend more time & focus on Lubrication of the entire drivetrain & Fuel system -Cleanliness & Lubrication & filtering then I do on cosmetic mods to my Ram).

Just many of my Last Truck OCDs. - Something I don't expect many others to totally understand!

I personally use Rotella T6. I haven't used an oil additive, but Archoil makes a friction modifier that seems to be popular. I do use Archoil fuel additive though, with noticable results.

My opinion, I was never crazy about T6 Rotella as MPG and idle smoothness were never the best on my trucks and I’d much rather run Valvoline Premium Blue.

I am currently running Amsoil Signature Series 5w-40 and Amsoil filter.

Next I will more than likely try Hot Shots Blue Diamond 5W-40 as it’s a 100% group 4/5 PAO synthetic oil.
@Dude's Diesel Performance can help you with placing a Hot Shots order if that’s the direction you wanted to go.

The one thing about that Hot Shot oil is most people don't have their truck set up for sample draws to send in for TBN reports.
Also it's about $140 for a oil change.
Plus one extra gallon of oil to fill filters when needed during the 50k to 100k run.

Never used it, but been looking into it.
Yes, I'm old and consider cost factors into maintenance.

I would be fine running the Hot Shot oil for 15k with 2 filter changes but as you stated, most don’t have their truck setup to get the maximum benefit from it.
