    Newbie needs help/advice...

So Im new to the site and performance mod world. I have a 14’ Ram 2500 with a 68 rfe trans. Im looking to do some upgrades. So far im going with the banks cold air intake and monster ram intake system, 5” flopro exhaust with muffler. As far as tuners, Im either going with with MM3 or EZLYNK...I think. For some reason im worried about the egt pulling my boat (5k lbs and eventually 8-10k) over two mountain passes on our way to our vaca spot. Is this something i need to worry about? If so what temp (and for how long) should I start getting in to “panic” mode? And whats the fix if i'm in the middle of pulling up a grade?

Also can someone help me understand what “full locked shifts” means and why that important?

Also any advice as to what delete kit to get or anything I would greatly appreciate.

    Thanks
    Ryan

fully locked shifts is where there's no shift flare when shifting n going into the next gear so its locked up while shifting which will tear up a 68. shift flare is when the converter unlocks and goes into the next gear then locks back up.

EGTs should be no higher than 1250 continuous. As long as you're under that, you're good. If you start cooking the turbo on a climb, the only real fix is to slow down, get out of boost and let it cool. Don't pull over and shut the truck down as that will cause the turbo to heat soak further which will only make things worse.

As far as tuning goes, a good tow tune with optimized trans tuning will go a long way in keeping your 68 happy. I'd recommend a MM3 from @DRD and I'll let Ray speak to the tuning side in terms of accomplishing anything else you may be interested in.

Also, welcome to the forum. Stop by the introductions thread and say hello!

Welcome! You have a couple different options for tuning but most on here use DRD's MM3.

It can damage your trans friend if you abuse it.

its up to you if you want locked shifting i don't recommend it. locked shifts slam it into the next gear with no safety net that the shift flare has and after a while the stock 68 will not like it. i recommend rays tuning his trans/engine tuning is very good i've been running his tunes for over a year
