My son has a 1999 Dodge ram 2500 CTD with 333,000 and the 47RE will need work soon.
I found a 96 47RE that needs a rebuild, my son and I will do the rebuilding.
Will the 96 47RE work in the 99 Cummins?
Thank you.

A 47re is a 47RE. The newer year will probably have some subtle internal upgrades. So yes they are interchangeable

I called Transmission Bench and asked them, they told me that the 96 47RE will work.
We picked up the transmission this afternoon.
