The trans will downshift to avoid too much strain.

6 speeds offer plenty of gearing options.

The OEM tires are 33's so not a big jump.

I'm going to beg to differ with you. 35s on 3.42s drops the effective final drive down to 3.22. This excludes the double overdrive of the transmission. The problem with this setup is that it causes the transmission to hunt, badly, at highway speeds. Yes, it will downshift, but it will hunt back and forth between 5th and 6th. Even Ray will tell you that the solution to the setup, especially in the city, is to lock out the upper gear ranges. The factory shift mapping is not setup for that tire size (or wheel weight).

You can modify the shift mapping (as I did on my truck) to lock out 6th on surface streets, and promote a better strategy on the highway to prevent hunting. These will make a huge difference in how the truck drives and the longevity of the transmission; assuming of course that the driver isn't putting the pedal through the floorboard everywhere.

The next step in the process is beginning. Coordinating with Strapt to drop the truck off for all the off-road goodies end of next month.

    Carli 3.25" Pintop system
Carli valved 2.5" King reservoir shocks
    Carli Front Torsion Sway Bar
    Carli High Mount Steering Stabilizer
    17x8.5" Method 105 beadlocks
    37x12.50 Nitto Ridge Grapplers
    AMP Powersteps

I penny pinched on my last truck, badly, and I paid for it, badly. This truck is getting the full treatment (minus the fabricated radius arms, solely due to lack of availability) because I fully plan to send it off road

Transmission hunts badly? Really? Not not accurate at all.

    1600 RPM at 70mph with 35s & 3.42s no downshifting or hunting at all vs approx 1750 rpm at 65mph 33s with 3.73 s.

I've had both and know, not guessing how they drive.

There is only about a 5 mph difference between 33s vs 35s.

Locking out 6th or any other gear is as easy as using the manual shift option no mod needed.

I prefer the OE shift strategy vs holding gears longer and shifting at higher RPMS, but that is a preference.

Cummins are designed to operate at lower RPMS with peak torque coming on around the 1600 rpm mark vs 2000 plus from V8's.

Looking good... Question for ya! How many miles you got on your 19 now? Does yours seem to use more def than you last truck?

I have 6500 miles on mine. I have been dumping a jug in about every 1500 miles.

    2021 2500 68RFE..... I'll just keep the goodies a secret!!!

    Thank you!

I have just over 2k on mine.

I picked the truck up with half a tank of DEF, put 2 gallons in the next day and haven't touched it since.

I've got just over a 1/4 tank left maybe?

Sounds like a use a little more but I have been pulling a descent amount.

Can't wait for Ray to work his magic. LOL.

I haven't towed/hauled anything yet. But I have put a ton of idle hours on the truck as well as a lot of low-speed off roading; both of which will increase DEF usage. But I will say that this truck seems to use DEF WAAAAAYYY less than my 4th gen.

But yes, I agree. Hopefully soon!

    Wanted to clarify.

I just crossed over 2000 miles and have like 3/8 of a tank of DEF. IIRC, 5 gallons of DEF should last roughly 2500 miles of general street use; so I should be tracking right on target for that (or close to it).

I'll run it down till it says to fill it and let you know how far I get.
