Cleaning Interior Controls From Sticky Mess

So I bought my truck used, 2016 2500 Laramie, it was a rebuild from an accident. The previous owner did a great job fixing it mechanically, however...the original owner must have had a pop in the cup holder at the time of the accident because all the controls for the radio and heater are sticky.

I took the center console/control panel off to clean it. I was able to get the switch panel at the bottom apart and cleaned, by soaking the switches in water (I was able to separate the circuit board from the switches). however, I could not get the radio control and heater controls to separate from the front panel so I can clean the sticky off.

Any ideas on how to clean the knobs and buttons, without separating the controls from the panel?

That's a good question. I'm curious also, just in case...

Most detailers use some type of steam, or a bristle brush with water and soap to soak them and the brush to agitate them. Kind of weird and nerve racking to watch but there are several videos of how they do interior on you tube.
