Thanks for the heads up. I just ordered one also. That plastic cap in a real pain to take off. Hopefully this will be much easier to remove.

    Re: Fuel filter billet cap.

Rather than start a new thread (poor forum etiquette?), I’ll ask this simple question here…

I have the el-cheapo iFJF cap too.
I’ve read the horrid reviews about how they leak and are near impossible to remove after they age but I have also read that it is crucial to lubricate the O-ring (and threads) upon installation to insure that the cap can be removed (without a Sawzall) at your next filter change.

    So my questions is:

Okay, I’ll lube the threads & O-ring but lube them with what?
    DW-40?
    Motor oil?
    3-In-One?
    Bearing grease?

I’m afraid to install the new billet cap until I get an answer.

    Thanks!

The only thing I'd personally lube the o-ring with would be motor oil or diesel fuel.

Don't cross thread it or torque it down to 743 ft lbs and you shouldn't have any problems.

I used a little motor oil, just enough to make the o ring wet looking.

Thanks for the input on this issue.
I may seem a little paranoid but two things come to mind…

1.) Oils and petroleum based products are known to swell (and eventually destroy) O-rings. That is why there are plenty of specific non-petrol based O-ring lubricants on the market. (Google it)

2.) Considering how sensitive the fuel system (and emissions) is on these modern diesels I was being cautious about what I might introduce into the fuel system by lubing the fuel filter O-ring.

    No, I’m not nuts.

Just a first time diesel owner that’s been slapped around quite a bit by this cold-blooded, somewhat finicky, 2016 Longhorn 3500 of mine.

Or perhaps it's just'the learning curve' I'm feeling.

    Thanks again!

Jake, just to let you know Mopar wants you to thoroughly lubricate the o-ring with clean engine oil.
