    Need batteries - what’s good?

Well it snowed and sleeted all day yesterday so I stayed inside, watched some football and cleared the drive when the moon showed up.

It got down to zero last night and topped out today at 4.
I had the block heater plugged in on my 2015 3500.

Around mid day I went to start it and after the grid heater ran a few seconds, all I got was a clunk. No crank.
I put a charger on for an hour or so - it was only reading 2a by then. I put jumpers on to my skid steer and it started right up. Coolant got up to temp quick.

So, I guess it is battery time.

What’s good and what should I stay away from?
With the Sears auto centers gone, I don’t even know where to go up here the Boston Metro West. Sullivan Tire?

    Thanks!

Was just fixin to start a thread. Got below 20 here and had to jump the truck off twice LOL. Was looking at regular auto stores and it looks like were be hard pressed to get out under 350$. Then started looking at odyssey figuring if I'm spend that kinda money imma go with something good but itd be right near 500. So I too am curious to what everyone has to say.

I was in a pinch when my batteries got 10 years old and unfortunately on a trip. I grabbed two batteries from the local Auto Zone and on my way. Been 2 years and no problems.

Note: normally I like trickle charge the battery before the install, seems to help the battery in the long haul. This time I fired it up and put 300 miles on it before I stopped. Plus I had great service with interstate batteries.

I just replaced mine with interstate- my first pair in a truck so I can’t speak to longevity. I decided to go this route because they are free replacement for 30 months and prorated for up to 6 years. Price wise they were right there with any others that had 36 month prorated

Re: Need batteries - what’s good?

The last few times I've replaced batteries sorry not in the truck yet but any of my other cars I have had good luck with the local chain parts stores. I've used both Autozone and Napa with good luck.
Most everyone is giving a 3yr replacement then prorated from that point on their better batteries.

Seems like all the ones I have purchased have lasted just about 6 or 7yrs of everyday use. Some of my limited use batteries are 10 or 12yrs.

My reason for purchasing from the chain was we do alot of traveling and I can find either of those stores all over the country, so if I was ever to have issues on a trip I figure I would have a better chance of finding a replacement on the road under warranty. Opposed to buying online or from an independent. Then I would be stuck buying another set just to get home. Just something to think about.

Personally I think as long as you stay away from bargan basment no name deals you should be ok.
Along with treating them good as well. Try and avoid running them down. And if the truck sits alot like mine does, Try and keep some sort of tender or trickle charger on them. I'm sure you know all this just letting you know what has worked well for me.

Any tricks for removal/replacement? I don’t have a garage and looking under the hood I don’t even see how they are held down.

I'm sure you've got it by now. But there is a bolt. Probably 13mm on the long side of the battery towards the engine. It will bolt into the battery trey.

Radio stations and possibly clock. Bout it. Alot of euro cars now you have to program the battery to the car and reset the battery life monitor. Not good ol ram tho

This is correct. I just bought my wife a BMW and while reading, found this out.
But what most don't know is some have 2 batteries. Her does. And thru BMW, it's $1,200 for the set and this includes install and program.
