Re: Traction Bars 4D Long box

Update and not a real good one - I got the brackets in the UBolts/under rear axle installed. This took me about 45 minutes with hand tools.

    1. Chalk front tires
    2. Lift rear end off the ground at least an inch. You don't need much. I jacked mine up under trailer hitch.
    3. Use another jack or jack stand to hold rear axle in place
    4. Loosen U bolts - I have about 1/2''-3/4'' of threads - I backed off nuts to top of ubolts then placed in bracker under axle
    5. Slide bracket between axle and ubolt
    6. Tighten Ubolts ensuring they are in the grooves on bracket
    7. Repeat other side

Now the bad- The bracket going on the front of the leaf pack would not work. I have 2014 springs on mine I guess....I need to check build date but I guess shes a late 2013.

The bolt going through the front of the pack is a BOOGER to get back in..I had use both jacks and a ratchet strap. Having an extra person to raise/lower the truck or axle would be very helpful since the holes need to line up about perfect. It took me about an hr alone to get that 1 bolt back in.....frustrating to say the least.

Long story short I have to return the bars and remove brackets. Tuff Country was great on the phone and said I could try and modify/cut bracket to make it work. I will likely end up returning these since I think I would have to cut a decent amount off of their bracket.

Now I am looking at Lazar Smiths Street Sleeper bars...very similar look. They are about $100 more than tuff country kit and bolt on. I am not really wanting to bolt through my frame so still exploring a bit at this point.

hey its all good. Take your time the truck isn't going to break without one. So there are ton of companies that sell brackets for this. That are bolt on. so you can do this and get the same results by you buying the joints of your choice. buy the brackets . most companies that make traction bars usually sell the joints because they do go bad. get the parts yourself and
have a offroad, fabricator etc, that knows what they are doing. the company I showed you on the first page (Dunks) did you talk to them? they can do a bolt on kit.

what $800 set up does thuren make. I do not see or ever known him to make traction bars.

since I have a 3500 traction bar needs are diff then a 2500. I thought the new full link rear end on the 2500 were helping with axle wrap. but I could see some movement on higher miles with control arms in the rear that had movement from wearing out.

for those that have aftermarket rear control arms that are bigger and less deflection are these setups helping with axle twist?

I got another set of bars delivered today by APOC- kit looks pretty good at a glance. 60” bolt on kit. These bolt to the frame so should have no issue, I will update once installed!

I know after building a set for my truck it started becoming apparent why they charge what they do for some of them. I have roughly $400 in mine and have not gotten them coated. Not including any consumables or my time. 2x.250 dom tubing and 7/8" x 3/4" hiem joints with 1/4" brackets.

Man those look good! I still haven’t put mine on- relocated and now getting up to speed with work. I just actually found all my hardware today so hoping in the upcoming weeks to get them bolted up.

    What legnth are your bars?
Think it’s worth the money performance wise? No turning back for me but curious!
