Check the specs. Cummins say full sync oil.
T4 isn't, it's a blend. T6 is full sync.
And it doesn't hurt using a 5w-40 year round.

I have been using t4 in Cummins motors (5.9 and 6.7) for 20 years and no issues at all

Does anyone use Mobil Delvac 1 5w40? I have been able to buy it the last couple years for around $12 per gallon after the rebate. I don’t know much about oil but always thought Mobil was good oil. Is there any reason not to use it?
Chose the oil weight range by your environment. If you live where the temperatures drop well below freezing, a 5W-40 is in order. Using a 15-40 will result in hard starts unless you plug it in. You don't always have that luxury.
Rotella T5 and T6 (Synthetic) are the most widely used. While Amsoil may be a good oil, I can't justify the cost vs a change with T6 and a pint of Archoil Friction modifier.

I do the rotella t4 or t6, I buy it by the 55 gallon drum at work, so its much cheaper for me, as I get it at shop cost.

It isn't a problem using any oil you choose. Rotella, Mobil, Amsoil ... just a 'quality product' if you like to save money. But I recommend if in doubt or you feel there is an indication of a problem, use a good lab for an oil analysis. Then you can know for sure if you are on the right track. Now do you need a lab sample every oil change ? Heck NO .. unless you do have problems. Since I run for long distance oil changes, I do it once per year. (And per Cummins, I called the factory on this, they recommend full Sync oil)
I wasn't sure what I wanted to use, so I selected an oil, ran it for one oil change, then sampled. Did this three times for each oil brand I selected. Then I made a choice of what oil I wanted to stay with. Part of the selection choice was .. availability, not just at home but on the road, cost, weight range I wanted and naturally the test results. Did take time, but worth it.
As for weight, Cummins use to recommend 15w-40 at a minimum. (Haven't checked into this for a while.)
I decided on 5w-40. The reason was flow factor in colder climates. I live in an area that can chill in the winter, (-7 the other year) but not like in Canada. And given a chance, I could drive in areas like North Dakota or Michigan in the dead of winter .. or California or Arizona in the middle of summer. Either way, it is still a 40w oil. But on start up in a colder climate, it flows like a 5w oil (covers metal quickly) and still rated as a 40w oil. Like I mentioned, I use it year round and my oil samples came back that my engine oil is healthy.
Just take the time to think this thru ...

I am a locomotive engineer. We sample oil on locomotives and filter change every 90 days but never change the oil. Those engines run near non stop between overhauls 20-25 years. At 400 gallons we couldn't afford to change the oil LOL Oddly, I am not sure what kind of oil we use, I should check now that I am curious and let y'all know as well...
Well, its non synthetic SAE 40 weight oil that has good alkalinity retention (whatever that means LOL) and is zinc free. I am sure there are different suppliers out there. I know where I work it comes in by tanker truck and we have storage for 8000 gallons...
