New to this forum and have CCV code

Had my truck a couple moth now. 2014 Ram 2500 with 6.7. Just close to 50K and since I bought the truck used I decided to do all the filters when I did my oil change. So I installed a new CCV filter instead of gutting it like I have seen most people doing, plugged the tube going to the turbo and installed a small filter to the vent tube coming out of the engine. Truck only has 49900 miles so I have no blowby. Thing is I can smell oil on occasion and after driving a while I get a check engine light with CCV disconnected code. Truck is stock otherwise, nothing deleted or tuned. Is this normal? Does it have to b deleted an tuned for doing the CCV mod? I was just trying to save the turbo fro the oil getting sucked in. Thanks

Welcome! I've heard a few guys complain about that smell with a breather kit. Too avoid this, and eliminate the risk of oil drooling down the engine, many of us have run a heater hose down to the frame.
Not sure why you're getting that code though.

    Welcome!!

I've read that some if the newer trucks trip will the CCV code with a set up like you are running, especially under hard acceleration. It seems the sensors are more sensitive to the lack of 'pull' that is created by the turbo when factory.

No oil is going to get sucked into the turbo if you change the CCV filter when recommended. This is a worthless mod in my opinion. Helps nothing and only causes trouble. Like codes.

I'm out. Switched back to gas!

Yes What he said. Although, there is no real reason to eliminate it other than to save the cost of the filter

I agree with this logic although I haven’t had this issue with mine. For what it’s worth Ray from DRD recommends leaving it as is since the draw from the turbo helps seal some internal components in the motor. There’s a thread on here somewhere under CCV delete with his exact verbiage. My .02 is hook it back up if you are going to change filters every 50-60k. Worth it for me personally so there is no odor!

If you are not running stock turbo then this does not apply

I got about 3 or 4ft of tubing and routed it down to the axel area. I thought it would be a little bit of oil. After 6 months I was shocked while using stock HP tune. I added a male-to-male fitting and extended down a little more below the axel. Too much oil was getting on everything. I don't think people realize how much oil comes out of that thing without a filter!!!!

Side note. I was at a booth and saw a canister that they were going to start promoting that could be attached and emptied. It was glass, had valves to empty and close it, I assume it would need to be emptied each oil change or every other at the least based on then looks of my front axel.
