    06 cummins question

So I get a rough idle every 15 to 20 seconds but only when the heater is on. It actually killed the truck at a light once. Heater off it idles beautifully.

Wow. Never heard of a computer controlled engine stalling with electrical load. I want to hear the outcome of this 1

it was weird, it started the rough idle like it has been when heater is on and started revving higher so i threw it in neutral and it sputtered and died. It restarted with no issues but was definitely strange.

Could the truck wiring have been tinkered with before you?

Don't know, it had yet to do it again but still has a rough idle when I run the heater. Does have a programmer on it, wonder if something's not right...

I’m assuming when you say ‘heater’ you are talking about the blower motor. I would check the connector going to your blower motor resistor. Pull it off and look for corrosion. The resistor sits next to the fan motor and when the a/c is on in humid climates, condensation gets in there and causes corrosion which could be resulting higher resistance in the circuit.

Yeah but the engine would still compensate for the load. If the load were that high, he'd be blowing a fuse. He's saying the engine is dropping out.

I'm leaning towards RF noise from the motor. I don't know if they are brushless motors or not. I suppose the resistor could oscolate some noise under a load too.

Yeah it's acting more like a load on the motor, reminds me of when my a.c. condenser was going out. Watched it today and the drop in rpms is minimal, might just be that I notice everything and think more of it then what is really going on.

I don't understand what you are saying. I thought the blower motor was stalling the engine? I need a better explanation so I keep my foot out of my mouth

Sounds like your alternator could be weak. Working just enough to keep the battery’s full just enough to restart it the next day. Say your alt is supposed to putout 140A but it only puts out 20A. That would deffinatly cause an issue on a cold start when the grid heater is cycling or during any other high electrical load just like your blower motor at the minimum I would have your ALT tested to see how good it is charging This is easy and could rule this out I’m a auto repair tech and with what you saying about your problems this would be the first place I would look
