    Thermostat

Ok so I live south south Texas were its humid an hot all year but maybe two of the moths. Well now that it's warming up I noticed my truck start running at 210 degrees witch wasn't normal being bran new radiator was installed less then a year ago an before winter it was only getting up to 185 at most. Iv asked here locally an some of my elder diesel owners if it was ok to let my thermostat run free flow meaning I cut the guts out of it an only put the o ring back on the truck. They have all said it should run better an cooler witch it does now run cooler any where from 150-170 depending on the trip. So my question is in the long run will this be fine. My plans are to put a new thermostat in around winter again. Our high temps here get up at 115-120 during the summer.

I ran an old chevy 350 (gasser) for almost 2 years in NJ without a thermostat. I don't see where it would do any harm, unless you are pushing the truck, in which case, I would contemplate installing a much colder thermostat, ike maybe a 150* (If I recall 190* is spec)

Yes 190 Is spec Iv heard I can probably find a 180 but I have yet to find any below that. I run my race car with no thermostat but like you mentioned 350 Chevy gasser so idk if my diesel will be different.

I don't see where it would harm it, as it would/does keep cooler temps. Up here, you would never have heat in the winter though without one in a diesel. Bad enough I go 15 to 20 miles before I get heat some mornings. (I dont plug it in)

I dont know if it holds truth for newer trucks but my boss and many old diesel mechanics have told me cummins are specific with their thermostats. Ive been told the old 12 valves need a cummins thermostat. If you get one like a duralast or something other than a cummins it will run either way hot or way cold. But like i said i dont know if it holds much truth for the newer models......
