    Air and Oil

Needing to replace my air filter and do oil soon. Is there a paper filter anyone recommends? On the 3rd Gens BHAF (Big Honken Air Filters) were the deal if you were not running a CAI.

I am planning on running Shell 15w-40 T4 with Mobil 1 filter unless there is something great out there I am unaware of. My oil light is not on but its been 8k miles since last change. Do I need to reset anything or will the oil sensor not go off until the new oil gets dirty? Thanks in advance!

Oil is a very discussed topic everywhere. I prefer Rotella T6 full sync oii. I believe your manual says they recommended full sync oil. Best to run there. It came from the factory with it. And it doesn't hurt to run it for the full term. Just use a good oil and filter. They are a strong dependable engines.

    Air and Oil

I use 15-40 Royal Purple full synthetic in my truck.
Also you have to manually reset your oil life after you change it.

Thanks for the quick reply's - I will stick with the synthetic then and do some reading. I guess I was assuming I would run the same oil as my 5.9. I am sure its in the manual but 12 quarts (3 gallons) the same with these motors?

Some 5.9's came with full sync oil, my '06 did. You can also go for extended oil changes with the right set up and yearly oil samples. I've known a few, me included that have done it and not have problems ... (except for the mental stress with not changing it like the old ways I've done all my life until you get use to it).

You mentioned air and the BHAF. Is there a problem with yours now ? Stock will handle up to 650 HP without a problem.

    Re: Air and Oil

I've been using Amsoil Signature Series Max-Duty Synthetic Diesel Oil 15W-40 for almost 3 years now. Installed a oil bypass filter last October and 18k miles later, I haven't done a full oil change since. I change the full flow filter every 5k miles and send in a sample to Blackstone labs about 1k before. My samples have never looked better.

Shell is good oil. I use the T6 5w-40 from Nov-Apr in Wyoming. I am certified through ICML and have been through many training classes on oil and lubrication.
