Hey man, I have the same setup as this guy.

    My tuning is from "tunemytruck".

    I'm getting the same issue.

The temp will shoot from 69° to 280-350° instantly and then back down.

I'm learning that the temp shoots up if I'm putting it under a load but its not boosting A bunch.

High boost it seems to drop down and then sometimes it'll drop off when idling.

    I've checked all the basics.

My big thinking is I installed a massive muffler (unhappy neighbors) which I'm thinking is causing enough back pressure and somehow pushing excessive heat under the hood and heating up the intake pipe.

I'm going to pull it off and test this theory when I get back from a road trip I'm on.

I wanted to see if you have ran into this issue since this post and was able to find a culprit?

    Re: IAT Issue

I don't have the second gen swap but I did recently install wehrli's cai and 50 miles into the drive I also threw a p0111 code. Checked the temps and the ambient air temp was pegged at 260 not moving up or down in 20 degree weather.

I replaced the sensor and now it reads on the money to outside air temps but I can't get code to go away. I'm in battery saver mode often and am wondering if it's now a bettery issue.

One thing I did notice though, wehrli has the sensor ports significantly closer to the turbo than stock or the s&b intake. Wondering if theres some correlation there?

I would check your batteries- load test them independently.

If voltage gets low on these trucks even just a little bit they’ll do strange things.

I had battery light coming on at start up a couple years ago and had radio issues (when cold and at temp).

Batteries tested okay but lower end of spectrum.

I replaced batteries and all has been well since.

Change both at the same time not just 1.

    Re: IAT Issue

Here's an update on my end.

This code was constantly popping up and really getting on my nerves.

I tried to order a new IAT but nowhere had one and it would take a minute to get one.

So here was my corrective action while I wait for a new one to come in:

IAT sensor: although it looked clean, I cleaned it vigilantly with electronic cleaner.

    Once completely dry, I reinstalled.

MAP sensor: sensor was extremely coated in soot(must of been from before I cleaned up the engine bay) cleaned it with electronic cleaner and qtips.

It took me a while to really clean it.

The green coating on it also looked melted off but I also couldn't find map sensor in stock.

    So I reinstalled once dried.

    Air cleaner: regular cleaning.

Verdict: code hasn't came on since.

IAT reads typically 20° higher than AAT but never has its freak moments.

If you try that and still get the code.

Look into throwing on a BOV to release the hot compressed air and maybe it won't make its way to the sensor to trip it.

    Just a thought.
