    No start problem

I have a 2003 common rail with 311,000 miles on it. It has just started with an issue, cold it will start flawlessly but once up to operating temp if I shut it off and try to restart it will crank but no start. If i let it cool until it doesn't read on the temp gauge it will start again. Once running it will run perfect as long as I leave it running. Is this the lift pump or the pressure relief valve not working properly. What is the best way to diagnose what part is not working correctly?

Could be a few different things. May want to hook up to a scanner and check for any codes, rail pressure hot and cold, bare wires under the hood, if im not mistaken there was an issue with a wire by the ac compressor that would rub bare and cause a weird short.

    David,
No dash code coming up to pertain to this. Only code is a 0837, something to do with 4x4 switch, which I don't have as I have the old fashion 4x4 lever.

Only way to check the lift pump fuel output is to take the banjo fitting off the line from the lift pump, put a hose on it and active it with a key bump into a drain pan correct? I am trying to avoid just throwing parts at it!

I don’t know if this could pertain to your problem or not but I have an 89 Firebird with a 5.7 L that did the exact same thing once it cooled off it started right back up. I tested the voltage on the injectors and turned out they were shot so I put new injectors in and car works like new.

Agree on this. In my experience with 5.9 and others around me injector failure is a common problem
