    Tuning A Stock G56 Trans

    How's it going?

So there's probably a thread with this topic, but there are so many threads and information that it'd take me three days to find, so here we go.

I've got a new RAM 3500 with the G56 and planning on getting in touch with Ray at DRD to make the truck run right.

I know throwing 100 extra horses at the stock clutch will burn it quicker than you could smoke a cigarette.

What about the 30-60HP tune, very light loads, and adult driving?

Does anybody with DoubleRDiesel tunes with a stock (new) G56 want to chime in and share your experience?

    Thanks!

    Welcome friend!

I also have a G56, and I won’t go any higher than 60hp everyday driving, and I use 30hp to tow with.

I have tried 90 and 120 before, and I’ll tell you it will slip your clutch.

Until I upgrade my clutch, 60 is the most I’ll go on mine.

I, too, couldn't use the 90hp tune without slipping the clutch at 1/4 to 1/2 throttle.

I put in a Valair dual disc, and no worries now; it grabs hold and won't let go.

Good move going with DRD; it wakes up the Cummins!

I've got a 17 with the G56. I tow very heavy on 30hp and only slipped it once in reverse. Trying to back a 36' trailer with a big tractor on it, onto a 6x6 block to change a tire. I dont go over the 30 though so very little experience there

I really appreciate the info guys. This is what I figured 30-60HP no issues really, anything higher and I’d need to upgrade the clutch.

Also it would be a good idea if you upgrade your clutch to upgrade your head studs too. According to DRD running anything above 120hp without upgrading the studs your only asking for trouble.

Like mentioned previously, the stock clutch on these things are garbage and don't take kindly to added power. Mine slipped on anything more than 60hp. Get a South Bend or Valair in there as soon as you can so you don't have to worry about it.

Anyone checked what the rwhp and torque are after tuning with DRD?
i have 2018 G56 with 60hp tune from DRD. It definitely has way more horses but wondering the above question.
    thanks
