    Oil Temp - Cummins 6.7L?

I understand there is not an actual sensor, but this algorithm has to be jacked.

Cruising unloaded at 25% load and oil temp is 201?

    Looks normal to me.

That's about what my temp says, which is 9 degrees hotter than coolant.

How much hotter do you think the oil should be over coolant?

Usually, I see coolant right around 186-190 and oil around 186.

I thought it was crazy that I wasn’t working the truck hard at all, and the truck thought it was over 200.

The oil lubes and cools the internals of the engine.

The coolant cools everything it touches.

So it doesn't look strange to me.

Also, my daughter lived in Vegas and told us it's been in the high 80s and 90s.

That adds to the little temp increase, plus you started with a 25% load.

That will make it work a bit, generating heat.

I have an actual oil temp gauge in my truck, as measured @ the oil cooler outlet.

I routinely see a 12-17* difference between coolant and oil temperature when empty. (ie..190* coolant, 207* oil when ambient is around 85*)

I've seen as high as a 40-50* difference when towing my Toy Hauler.

I can't speak to engine load v.s temp as I don't monitor the load.

    Oil Temp - Cummins 6.7L?

What about rapid oil temp fluctuation?

Today mine started rapid drops in oil temp to 170 in a matter of seconds from 199, and then it took a while to get back up to 199, and as soon as I stopped, it dropped back to 170 almost instantly.

Mine started to do this when I changed from stock/deleted to my current setup.

It's not a real oil temp sensor, just an algorithm that works off of coolant temp and other inputs.

Before, mine would steadily warm up to 203-204 unloaded and hold that temp until I shut it off.

So, my truck did the same thing today.

When driving on the freeway, exiting the highway, and coming to a stop, the oil temperature drops from 199 to 145.

I drive down the road and slowly come back up, then drop again to 170.

    This is baffling me.

    Does anyone have any ideas?

What is your coolant temperature doing during this event?

The oil temperature will fluctuate with the coolant temperature.

    Coolant was steady at 190.
