Upgrade Thoughts/Suggestions - Banks Horn - GDP Grid Heater?

Looking for some thoughts and suggestions on the upgrades for my truck. 2012 2500 Crew Cab Short Bed. I am looking at getting DRD delete package and their tuning and ultimately end up with Warp tuning. I understand that most of these components could be left stock and just run deletes kits on them but while I have my hands in there wrenching I am looking at placing the components in my truck that will make it perform better and could set me up for potential upgrades.

As of right now, I am trying to decide between these air intakes: leaving stock, changing to S&B or RPI intake. I am currently leaning towards the RPI.

I am also looking at replacing my intake ram. I am trying to decide between a Shibby stage 2 and a Banks Mega Ram. I am looking at keeping the grid heater and Shibby has the throttle valve delete with an integrated heater. The Banks looks like I would have to leave the grid heater in place and just clean the existing one or replace. That is unless I can make the universal grid heater from GDP work or the BD diesel air intake heater. I have found info banks for airflow but cannot find airflow info for the Shibby intake.

I am also looking at changing out the boost tubes while I am diving in the engine compartment.

Any thoughts suggestions or just anything I have not thought would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks have a great day!

I have the GDP S2 air horn with GDP heater delete. I also have the Sinister throttle valve delete instead of the air horn that is all in one. That is where the remote grid heater would go. I think that’s the S1. I have the S&B intake as well and I am very satisfied with everything.

You have definitely done some great research for sure.

I would go S&B on the intake, shibby on the boost tubes and as far as the intake horn it is definitely a tough decision! They are both extremely great products! The shibby will definitely let you keep your grid heater and you can always delete it later on if need be. You can also get their throttle valve heater if you ever feel you need it.

How much power are you planning on going for?

I am deleting the grid heater and relocating using the GDP kit, hopefully today if I can shake off the beer I drank last night LOL

I was considering doing the stage 2 intake from GPD but decided against it when I read that the stock intake is good up to around 500 HP. Since I don't plan on pushing power, the stock intake works just fine for me and I get to save some money for who knows what.

So it really comes down to what you want in terms of power, unless you're going for looks or something.

Everything I've read seems to point toward Banks inflating their numbers. Just last week I saw a thread where one of the machined ports fell off someones monster ram. Literally fell off..? There will never be anything made by banks on my truck. I'm a fan of Glacier Diesel myself.

Anyway best of luck to you

Just finished up some of the upgrades for the truck. First off would like to Thank,
    Double R Diesel
    and
    Dude's Diesel Performance
for their assistance and customer service for me to get the truck running like a completely different truck. I went with DRD complete tuning package and also had them retune once the switch programming came out. Installed the 5" Flo Pro, Pusher boost tubes, RPI Intake, and from GDP their Grid heater delete, TV Grid Heater, and S-2 Intake manifold. This took me a couple of weekends in the driveway and garage, taking my time and working by myself.

Truck has definitely woke up and have already seen better performance and fuel mileage out of the upgrades.

Next install will be the steps for the wife.

Congrats man! Nothing like doing it yourself and being satisfied with the results when complete. I highly recommend Amp power steps if you can swing it. Much more functional than the factory step bars.

I second the power steps! I don’t have Amps but I have Bestop steps and they were very easy to install! Always go with the hardwire option and don’t be intimidated because you have to pull the fuse box!

I have the AMP power steps sitting in the garage waiting to be installed. That is going to be the next weekend that I free and that is upgrade to the truck that the wife is looking forward too.
