The one ton has leaf springs, and duallies have more side to side stability over a SRW. There is a reason I just purchased a 5500 for work. My 2500, is my DD. At work we tow 15000 to 20000 all the time. Even to the lighter side we didn't like the 3500's pulling and needed the bigger axels and brakes, so we opted to go up to 5500. we have a F550 a Ram 5500 and our 3500, is now a parts delivery truck.

Use your head, and think safety. If you can afford the 1 ton, Just do it for the sake of saftey and peace of mind that it is better suited to handle it. Plus the ASIN Trans is better for the pulling.
I keep hearing about this Ausin trans .. does that come in the larger cummins class?? I.E. your 5500??

I do completely understand the DOT reference .. there always bustin my chops ... but what you mentioned .. about your 2500 being your DD ... how would you feel about pulling a 16,000 lbs 5th wheel on a 2500 and thats ALL she pulls for the most part and thats maybe once a month ...

I am also looking at a 5500 chassis rig to HOT SHOT on the weekends to purchase as well ... is in IN ADDITION

Personally, my comfort line on my 2500 is between 10 and 12K Mostly because of the coil spring. As for the ASIN, that is available in 3500 and larger.

ahh, well ... okay .... although the 2500 is rated 17,900 lbs .... here is another question ... what extra expenses would I be looking at if I purchased a Duelly as a DD

I am starting to agree ... with what i'm looking at doing not I believe I do need a 3500 ... here's my next question ... if RAM rates there 3500 SRW at 30,000+#'s meaning as far as DOT is concerned they cannot say otherwise ... Is she capable? With some HIGH RATED load capacity tires ?

I just don't really wanna be forced into getting a duelly

30000 pound towing capacity is only for a properly equipped 3500. If you read the specs for that that is a single cab long bed dually with the Asin transmission and 410 gear ratios

Trust me if you ever head up into the mountains, or some windy roads towing, you will be glad to have the added stability of those outer tires.
