My thinking is to remove the EGR system completely.
Besides cleaning up the engine bay removing the EGR cooler gets rid of an unnecessary heat load and possible coolant leaks.
Blocking off the EGR intake and exhaust ensures you won’t ever pump exhaust back into the intake.
