    Re: EGR Turned Off

My thinking is to remove the EGR system completely.

Besides cleaning up the engine bay removing the EGR cooler gets rid of an unnecessary heat load and possible coolant leaks.

Blocking off the EGR intake and exhaust ensures you won’t ever pump exhaust back into the intake.

    Re: EGR Turned Off

I know this is an old thread but I have a few questions.

On the EGR are there flow rate sensors or is there sensors just to monitor the valve(s) opening and closing frequency and amount of open time?

Would block off plates and leaving everything else in place cause problems?

I’ve owned my new truck for 1 week with 500 miles and I’m not quite ready to drop the warranty but I’ve had prior experience with an EGR taking a crap in an engine.

Had a 15 series Cummins grenade when the EGR exploded and dumped just about all the coolant into the intake.

How do you say “STOP NOW”.

Thanks for any and all suggestions.

This attachment should explain the EGR system better than I can.

You would need an engine tune to turn off the EGR system and prevent engine trouble codes prior to installing the block off plates.
