I've only had the truck for 2 months and it is full deleted and tuned but I have no tuner or switch so I do not now what it has. it has stock head bolts and I have been afraid to jump on it past half throttle yet. it feels very strong and sounds like it has a dual disk clutch in it. I look forward to possibly a small build of compounds, DRD MM3 tuning, ladder bars, and a leveling kit.

thanks guys. I got the truck with 96k miles on it. So getting the recalls done is no big deal. I'll drop the truck off in the morning and they will have it done before I am done with work. The mystery tune is a bit rough haha I don't know how hard I could push the truck however it does feel like a strong tune. I still have yet to go past half throttle for fear of blowing the head gasket or clutch or an axle LOL. One day I'll have it all figured out and set straight.

    Those aren't ARP studs though?

Also what's this about having to tap the block... First I've heard of that

Yes true. We are still waiting for arp to release the new ones. But they are like these! I don’t understand the taping of block tho either. Sorry should’ve said found ones like what I’m talking about. Same material and 12mm. Like it says great in the middle 425-625 studs.

I guess you really don’t have to tap the hole all the way down. They just recommend it for less stress and more strength.

I know some recommend chasing the threads with a bottom tap. But unless the heads are off the block, you'll need a tap that is about 6" long, good luck finding one that long. Shouldn't be bottoming out the studs anyway.

If they are longer studs then I think you do have to tap them all the way down or they would be too long. If there's space below the factory threads thru the inside would be the diameter of the hight of the threads and those studs would still bottom at the threads with negative space beneath, right?

So if you don't bottom then out then what do you do?

Bearing in mind this is something I have never done....

Do you bottom out the stud and then back it off say 1/2 turn or something?

Studs around this price point are doable for me. As much as I'd love to get 625s it is major overkill for anything I'll ever do and the price is hard for me to justify.

I'm keeping my truck as close to stock power as possible and am continuously mentally preparing myself for the day I do the head studs which will probably be in the next year or so.

So yeah, don't bottom out the head studs eh?

Correct, you don't want them to bottom out, that's a whole different force being put on the stud and block. Here's a link to ARP install instruction, I think they'll have the answers to most of your questions. They actually explain how to pre-stretch the stud, just like an old mechanic explained to me years ago...
