I would personally put new shims in. Honestly, I would probably put new everything in since you have already came this far. The new ring gear will be slightly different so crushed/worn shims may not get you into tolerance, not worth tearing apart again.

I agree. Shims cost isn't a wallet breaker .. and once your in, it's worth making sure all is what its suppose to be. Plus loosing that much metal, I'd be inspecting every square inch of internals including pulling the axles to inspect.

The whole purpose you wanted this truck was to work it .. right ?
All that you have to make it work is transmitted to 'this rear end' to do what you wanted it to do.
    Why go cheap ?

Front Axle for a GOOD mechanic is about 6 hours. Front end has to come apart so plan on possible ball joints or CV joints. Definitely seals. The rear is going to have to be flushed out. You need the proper depth gauges to set the pinion too. Not many people have the AAM set up tools. Chevy, and GMC use that carrier too. That would be a dealer job for sure. Not too many real good diff shops around.

Before anyone can put a price tag on it, a further inspection has to be done. Do you have any idea what caused this? Given the type of damage you have, you may have other damage as well. You may want to consider a used assembly.
