    09 head

Taking a short break. Pulling the head today gasket will be here tomorrow. Everything else Thursday or Friday. Taking the head to get worked this afternoon or in the morning

Any tips for getting 5 & 6 push rods out. Lifting them I'm just hitting the top of the firewall. Not enough space

@Polaraco if anyone pulled a cummins head it has to be you ... what is your answer for him buddy !

I have yet to pull a Cummins head, so I can't help. To me, if there's enough of them out where I and a friend can pull the head with the rods loose, it would be done. Had this happen in the past, but not on our engines, on a gasser, not sure if this would be the answer.

    Re: 09 head

Everything disassembled except for taking the head bolts out and 5&6 push rods. Unless anyone can give me suggestions the only thing I can see is sliding them further down and pulling the head up and over them. And hope they don't get bent
Then the fuel line on the rear of the head to the filter. Absolutely stupid placement for a fuel line. Least they could have done is ran it behind the head not over the rear corner drivers side

Should have gotten everything taken apart today but had to fight several exhaust manifold bolts to break free. Definitely going back together with some sort of antiseeze

I figured the rear 4 push rods out

Pulled the head bolts this morning. Waiting for help to get the head off today to see what things look like. Anticipating wonderful things
Wonderful smell and 2 head bolts between 3&4 on plenum side sounded like a suction cup pulling them out

Just changed oil about 200 miles ago. Pan is still clear of coolant and radiator clear. The 2 bolts were pretty thick. Appears to be some coolant in that part of the head/chamber

Still not the easiest to get to. Top of the firewall under the wipers and all. There are 2 plugs you pull out. Then the rods can slide into the cowl and angle out over the edge of the head

Appointment this morning to put an offer on a different house. Waiting to hear from a friend about coming over when he's free to help lift the head out. Then I can take it to my friends shop to get checked out and decked if needed

I knew you'd figure out those push rods.

The story is when Dodge first started to shove a cummins in is

Marketing went to the truck department and said they would like to put a cummins diesel in the pick up. Will it fit!? The engineer stood in front of a truck with an artists thumb out, rotated it several times and said "Yup". And that's how we got blessed. Hey. at least we don't have to take the body off.

FYI Years ago I ran into a Cummins rep at the dealership I later worked at. In it's day, Corigliano was the place to buy and have your truck fixed. He told me they tried to sell Dodge the 4BT version, saying They could get 500 HP out of them, blind folded. I doubt it would have made any difference with the head though. . .

    Just sayin'.

3&4 definitely failed. 1 was about to go
Pistons and walls look like new. Dropping head off tomorrow morning

Taking a wet stone to the block in the morning to get rid of any imperfections before it goes back together
