    I'm done with it

A short 6 mile drive this morning on my way to town and had to turn around. Truck hit 254 degrees being 29 degrees outside. First warning light came on

Been chasing down a cooling issues the last few weeks. Since having a flush. Has been vacuumed 2 times. Gone through almost 18 gallons of coolant. Several radiator caps and thermostats

Only parts not replaced are radiator hoses and radiator
And of course the head gasket

I don't drive the truck like a young kid so minimal boost. Highest is either passing or during towing
I've checked for combustion gas, pressure tested, vacuum tested. All were good

Only negative sign is bubbling overflow and not returning to radiator after truck cools down

I think it's time to get rid of this Cummins and go back to a Powerstroke. I can't stomach the thought of a Duramax but for what they sell for and so many on the market I might look

    Powerstroke > Cummins

Cummins at this point is equal to a Duramax or possibly lower now to me

Go ahead, then see how much it is a replace a HG on the PS or Duramax. it happens, anything man made can fail.
You do know they have to remove the CAB to work on the fords right?
if you are even half way mechanically inclined you can replace the HG your self in a day on these engines.
    See ya.

    I had a 99 7.3 and a 08 6.4
The 7.3 was great. Only complaint about the 6.4 was sloppy shift points stock

If this is in fact my HG what pisses me off is someone else caused it but no way to prove that. I have driven with my 200hp tune daily passing no issues. In this case it was set on the 120hp and the guy had to have been hammering the thing to lift the head

I'm minimally hopeful that changing my hoses tonight and trying to refill and letting it bleed the air might work. I doubt it works but worth trying
Either way my gaskets will be here Monday just in case and a friend is ready at his engine shop to do my head work

In the meantime the manager I work with at the dealership is looking for me

throwing money away in new hoses and more coolant isn't going to fix it any faster. its bubbling, fix it right and move on. start running a lower tune.
Yes the 7.3 is amazing engine. can't say the same for the 6.0-6.4and some of the 6.7 offerings. but they are fast.
The grass isn't always greener... Just saying,

I've been hearing that a lot that failure is rare. If it is the HG the shop had to have been beating the hell out of it
Makes me miss my 7.3 for sure though

1st time I flushed my radiator it was getting hot and pucking over some. When I did it I changed the stat and rad cap as usual and bought it from AutoZone. Long story short, I bought a Cummins stat and cummins rad cap. Never had a problem since. Seems my truck is finicky and wants them only. Might be something to think about.

Tstats - Cummins, Stant (what Dodge puts in), Murray and a Mopar
Cap - Stant, Murray with/without lever, Mopar

Swapped the temp sensor thinking it was failing possibly

I sucked it up and went to a dealership that has really good diesel mechanics that I trust. They couldn't come up with anything more than I had. The truck wasn't showing anything other than irraddic temps on 2nd starts at normal driving conditions not heavy acceleration and puking coolant from overflow. Heater cool then hot after temps came back to normal range
