Hey guys I know someone has had this issue.
My SERV 4WD light on the dash comes on and then goes off.
Doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason for it. It's a 2012 2500 4x4 diesel.

Since it is intermittent, this is more likely an electrical/sensor issue vs a real 4w issue.
Start with checking the harness plugs at the front and rear axles as well as on the transfer case.
Clean and dress the contacts with dielectric grease.
If after all that the code still comes back then you will need to have a shop dig into it further.

I had this issue and found some info on it.
A couple different posts said just to put the truck in 4x4 drive a second take it out and you should be good.
I did it and have not had the issue since.

Cool bud I have 126,675 give or take a few never had my light come on

Have you done anything to the truck recently? Any mechanic touched your truck?
2012 ram 2500 4x4. 3” lift. 37x13.5x17 toyo mt. Smitty built grill, kenwood radio, bullet liner.
I have not had anything done except normal maintenance. I have put it in and out of 4WD several times and nothing changes
