    Aisin or 68RFE

Well shopping now for the newest edition. My wife is needing a new ride and looks like we are going in the direction I want.
Not big on auto trucks while pulling, thus my G56, so trying to decide between these 2. Not that she will be towing regularly at all but would like the extra reliability when needed. There will be NO mods done for some time if ever.
    Any thoughts between the two?

I have the 48RE and have no issues with it. It's preforms very acceptable when empty or loaded. Most I've towed was 800 # in the bed and 9.2K on a trailer cross country. Service when required and put an over size oil pan for eaiser service and more oil advantage. But if your going to ramp up the HP/TQ, you'll really need to consider ramping the 48 up too. Anyone else with a 48 can step in, but someone with an Aisin really needs to open up.

I apologize for the wrong title but it should be 68RFE. Thanks for your input though. Working on changing it now.

The 68 is a pretty stout trans. The Asain was the trans used in the C & C. I was unaware they were offering the option now. The Asain is a 68 with tighter tolerances and beefier. Last I knew, the dealers were not allowed to repair the Asian.

If you are not going to abuse the truck, the 68 will be plenty. Just remember, Heat Kills. So what the old man said applies, and maybe a larger trans cooler. But even then, driven properly and heat will not be an issue.

My only complaint with my 68RFE is the goofy downshifting it did from time to time. It wasn't bad when stock but as soon as I added power it really showed.

If I was buying a new truck I would get another. I would love one with a G56 but the wife will not learn a clutch.

G56 is so simple for guys wanting over 500hp. Auto trannies are expensive to build. I could probably buy 2 or 3 G56 transmissions for the price of a 68 build. wish my wife couldn't drive a stick shift. She likes to show off

I had 700HP on a 68. Never failed me. My dealer blew the converter when he towed his boat with it though. I'm surprised he didn't twist a shaft the way he drives. Why do people have so much trouble with transmissions?

700hp on stock trans? I towed 27000 combined on my stock G56 at 600hp for 5yrs before selling truck. Try that with an auto.

Both are good transmissions. Built automatic trannys are expensive. I too wish I had a G56, but my wife doesn't want to drive a manual.

The 68RFE doesn't get credit for how good it is if you take care of it. They do last longer with good tuning.

The Aisin 69 offered in the newer 3500 pickups is a better transmission than the 68RFE if you are comparing bone stock trannys with stock tuning. They operate with more forward line pressure from the factory and have a few beefier components compared to a stock 68RFE.

The kicker has been for guys who like a tuned truck is that nobody has attempted to crack the TCM of the Aisin 69 and tune it. However, I've heard rumors that both RaceME and Smarty have plans to address tuning the Aisin in the future. A tuned Aisin would be a sweet deal!
