Another 2006 light problem

So I bought another 06, it had a cheap hid kit on it. The low beams would only come thru the fog lights, so I decided to take it all off. Went to the parts store, got new bulbs gor the head lights, and the fogs.

Function test.
High beam: with key just switched to the on position, only the driver side light works. Crank the truck, both work??
Low beam: no low beam coming thru the head light, fogs work fine.

Any tips/hints/tricks/black magic I can try before taking to someone who will over charge??

I read somewhere else a guy was having an issue similar and had his truck scanned. Said there were codes for the lights and once the codes were cleared the lights worked fine. Im going to try that this afternoon but I figured I would throw it out there for other options.
