    Question Front mount hitch

Has anyone used a front mount hitch? If so what are your thoughts on them?

I went to my property this past weekend and slid into a rain washout and screwed up my running board due to getting stuck. I managed to get myself unstuck and backed down the washed out road. However I believe if I had a winch attached to the front of the truck I would have been able to pull myself forward and would have not damaged my running board. I have been looking at getting the following hitch as well as a winch the I can place into the hitch when needed. Otherwise I would just keep it in my tool box.

I have one for my winch. The idea is a good one. I don't use mine for off roading, I move cars with it.

May I suggest you respool with the synthetic cable, it's far more flexible and much easier to work with in a pinch. I suggest 3/8. You should also have a tow chain, 2 is better, and a snatch block. Depending on your situation, you may want to double up for your pull. I have many years of rigging experience.

I just picked up/installed a Reese front hitch for $129 w/free ship. It bolted on in under an hour with minimal cussing, due to skin loss wedging large hands in tight spaces. The only thing left for me is deciding what winch & mount for a 2017 3500 4dr 8' box 4x4 dually(14K GVR) w/ 9K front receiver?

Warn winches as far as I am concerned only way to go you need 16.5 ton not cheap but you can't beat them like $ 1800 to $ 2000 range but you won't be stuck anywhere with that bad boy

My friend has 80 acres in the middle of the Arizona desert that has three washes you need to go through to get to his private road. He has a winch that fits the front and back hitch when needed. Great idea when needed. But he mentioned a long time ago, if your gonna use the non metal cables, it is recommended to stretch it out when first spooling it. He didn't on his and when he used it the first time, when he took the tension off it shot back. After that he rolled it out, stretched it out a bit, then rolled it on the spool. Never had it shoot back again.
